Bit of a long hiatus

Wow, it’s been a while. I’ve been quite busy at work lately but documenting a lot of what I’m doing. I do this mostly to help coworkers and myself if the same task needs to be done in the future but I also would like to post some of what I’ve been writing for the general public to use.

Ok, well I’m still busy but I will make more of an effort to put more up on the blog in this next week.

Cold Shower Anyone?

I don’t like to complain about the hot weather when we get it here in Washington state but I sure wish I had a fan on days like yesterday. According to weather.com, the last two days hit 87F (31C). I spent a lot of yesterday inside but still with very little breeze it got quite warm.

Well, I did something I don’t think I’ve done since last year when I was in Jamaica for vacation. I took a cold shower. As I remember, it’s the first 10-20 seconds that really cut your breath out of your lungs. It was quite a shock but as I turned around and let the water hit my still-warm back I could feel my core body temp come down. After a few minutes it’s really not too bad and actually feels good. I left my hair wet as well when I got out and then when the very little breeze does make it into the room it keeps me cool.

Glad I have some coping skills for the few times I need to adjust to warm weather.

2008 Family Camping Trip At Deception Pass

Family Camping Trip ‘08!!!! Well, I was pretty excited about this one because I haven’t been able to go regularly since my last job required me to work a lot through the summer especially. Now that I have a regular 9-to-5 job I have my weekends free. So I was stoked about going and seeing a lot of relatives that I hadn’t seen in a while. Unfortunately a couple of the regulars didn’t show up this year but we still had a good time. Having only 3 males there including myself meant I brought way too much beer so I took that back home. I did get to see my cousin Tessa’s “new” baby again who is toddling around now almost walking on her own. The baby’s cousin was there as well and it really is nice to have some children around again; even if they wake up crying in the middle of the night from time to time. haha.

Got a couple walks in, a float around the lake in a kayak, and one of the things I enjoy the most which is sleeping outside in the nice fresh air. I have to thank my mom for letting me use her nice kayak since my aunt’s has a weight limit that I am just a wee bit over. And thanks to Lael for setting it up this year.

There were a few complaints about the state of the group camp site at Deception Pass State Park which could have been better but I won’t elaborate on those here. Seeing the people was the best part for me so without further adieu I will share some of the photos:

Brother And Sister Up To Visit

Aria and Langston came up to stay with me on the weekend of the 4th of July. I was a little worried about their ability to keep from fighting with each other over the weekend but they did alright; considering they’re both teenagers. haha. Ok so they probably won’t appreciate that but it’s true!

Well we hung out and stayed up late playing video games. Sunday I took Langston by the skate-park in Edmonds. so he could skate a bit. He really reminds me of my friend Brandon back in high school. He used to skate everywhere and was always talking about it or reading the magazines.

Well, I got a few pics of Langston Skating and then one group photo of the 3 of us. (more…)

4th of July on Lake Union

I don’t usually do much for the 4th but this year it worked out that I could hang out with my brother and sister, their family and friends! The location was right on Lake Union in front of the barge that is used to launch the fireworks. It was quite literally awesome to be so close. I love to feel the explosions throughout my body as the fireworks shred apart above.

Occasionally the power lines got in the way of a nice shot but otherwise I like a few of the photos. Been a while since I broke out the tripod and played with the manual settings as well so it did me good. Enjoy. (more…)
