This whole Idol Gives Back thing is gettin on my nerves. Sure the stuff they show is sad and supposed to be touching and it would be if I actually thought they cared. Call me cynical but I don’t really think one week of your show dedicated to people in need is really giving back.
Yea, they’re getting some donations for a couple days but what about the rest of the year? What are these quite-well-off individuals doing to help? If they are doing something let me know and I’ll eat my words but as far as they act the rest of the season I’m pretty sure this is just a clever marketing ploy to get more viewers… and the sad thing is it works.
That’s my rant.
i agree it’s not only 1 week where you have to do this stuff, but everyday. there are some places that gives food everyday to the needy – i thought that was pretty nice.
i guess in a way most people ard the world see america as some big strong country that it’s hard to believe people still live on the streets there.
That is true that it’s always an eye opener even for people here that we still have poverty. We do and they need help as well.
So they did raise a lot of money for one day and I can hope that some people were made more aware and will help more in the future. But I’m still cynical and think most people will forget about these charities by next week.

It is unfortunate, but I think that’s exactly what is going to happen.
It seems like if they really cared they would think “Hey, we made over 30Million in one night. Think what we could do if we did something like this every week!”
Not saying I give to charity every week or even monthly but I don’t write articles like “Oliver Gives Back” either.

true i agree that if they really cared they will always donate the money they get every week.
they wouldn’t do it always anyway, since ultimately they care abt themselves more then these people.
every yr we have charity shows as well, like 5? each one makes about 5 mil from those calls. however, eventually one of it became a scandal, as seen here because it seemed that all the money they made from the show went to the a** pay.

Read a little of that link. That’s sad and makes people trust charities even less as well. We’ve had some of those — the one I remember was a tv pastor who was keeping all the money donated.
